It 'went on sale September 29, 1966 for 1967 model year and was designed as rival model to Ford Mustang. Car shared the platform and major components with the Pontiac Firebird, also introduced in 1967.

Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived again on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009. The car was also featured in Transformers, as a main character named Bumblebee.

Before any official announcement, reports began running during April 1965 within the automotive press that Chevrolet was preparing a competitor to the Ford Mustang, code-named Panther. On June 21, 1966, around 200 automotive journalists received a telegram from General Motors stating, "...Please save noon of June 28 for important SEPAW meeting. Hope you can be on hand to help scratch a cat. Details will follow...(signed) John L. Cutter � Chevrolet Public Relations � SEPAW Secretary." The following day, the same journalists received another General Motors telegram stating, "Society for the Eradication of Panthers from the Automotive World will hold first and last meeting on June 28...(signed) John L. Cutter � Chevrolet Public Relations SEPAW Secretary." These telegrams puzzled the automotive journalists.

Chevy Camaro 1980

On June 28, 1966, General Motors (GM) held a live press conference in Detroit�s Statler-Hilton Hotel. It would be the first time in history that 14 cities were hooked up in real time for a press conference via telephone lines. Chevrolet General Manager Pete Estes started the news conference stating that all attendees of the conference were charter members of the Society for the Elimination of Panthers from the Automotive World and that this would be the first and last meeting of SEPAW. Estes then announced a new car line, project designation XP-836, with a name that Chevrolet chose in keeping with other car names beginning with the letter C such as the Corvair, Chevelle, Chevy II, and Corvette. He claimed the name, "suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to its owner" and that "to us, the name means just what we think the car will do... Go!" The new Camaro name was then unveiled. Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, "What is a Camaro?" and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

Chevrolet Corvette | Car Review | The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car by the Chevrolet division of General Motors (GM) that has been produced in six generations. The first model, a convertible, was designed by Harley Earl and introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called corvette. Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently built in Bowling Green, Kentucky and is the official sports car of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The National Corvette Museum documents the car's worldwide history and hosts the annual event.

After six long and beautiful generations, the Chevrolet Corvette is just as much a hot commodity as it was in 1953 when the first concept was rolled out for all to see. This American-made sports car comes in four different trims: Standard, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1.

The standard Corvette and the Grand Sport are both powered by a 6.2L V8 engine that pumps out 430hp and 424 lb-ft of torque. Add the upgraded exhaust system and the models get 436hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Sport differentiates itself from the standard model with a few upgrades, Z06 styling cues, and its won gear and rear-axle ratios. The Corvette Z06 is powered by a 7.0L V8 engine producing 505hp and 470 lb-ft of torque and the newer ZR1 boasts a 6.2L supercharged V8 delivering 638hp and 604 lb-ft of torque to the table. - CAR REVIEW

The Chevrolet Camaro is set to arrive in showrooms in the UK in early 2012 and will be available from �34,995 on-the-road. The American muscle car is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine and suspension that has been fine-tuned for European roads. All UK versions of the Camaro will be left-hand-drive only and will come complete with the top of the range specifications including, 20-inch alloy wheels, Brembo performance brakes, full leather upholstery with a six-way power adjustable driver�s seat, a Boston Acoustics nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth and rear parking sensors. A choice of premium paint colours, bonnet stripes, interior trim accents, a sunroof, polished alloy wheels and automatic transmission, will also be available for an extra �1,500.

The Bumble Bedzz are bee-friendly flower beds which have been created in areas such as location railway stations to try and encourage people to plant their own beds and in doing so boost the bumblebee population. The Bumble Bedzz are the brain child of Jim Webster, owner of the locally owned and family run business, Bees Knees, a pest control supplier.



Chevrolet�s Bumble Bed features flowers, including Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme and Buddleia, in the shape of a Chevrolet�s iconic bowtie.

"The bumble bee is as much of an icon for the British countryside as the Camaro is for Chevrolet," said Mark Terry. "It's fair to say that they both cause quite a buzz. We're delighted to be involved in such an innovative and worthwhile local initiative"

In the first half of 2011, keep the Chevrolet Silverado pickups and Ford F-Series the No. 2 and No. 1  in car sales. But Japanese manufacturers have positions 3 to 6.

Chevrolet Volt UK Pricing Announced

Unlike most electric cars, the only time a Chevrolet Volt really needs a charge attached to it is when you buy it in the first place! And when it goes on sale in the UK next year, the Volt will cost from �28,545 after the government backed �5,000 electric vehicle grant, making it less expensive than some traditional petrol or diesel engined five-door hatchbacks.

Of course, by plugging it in, you�ll save yourself a fortune. The Volt has an electric-only range of between 30 and 50 miles depending on terrain and traffic conditions, after which its on-board generator kicks in to sustain battery power.


Unlike conventional hybrids, the electric drivetrain � known as E-REV, Extended-Range Electric Vehicle � directly powers the car�s wheels. The petrol engine is there to simply prevent the battery going flat, thus eliminating the fear of �range anxiety� experienced by users of other electric vehicles, who are dependent on a limited range and a charging infrastructure before they can use their cars without compromise.

Yet if the driver is only commuting, he or she need never put any petrol in the car, meaning it only ever needs fuelling for longer journeys.

The Volt�s technology is so clever that it has won the car multiple awards in the USA, where it was crowned North American Car of the Year, as well as winning similar plaudits from major titles Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine.

Chevrolet chose to announce the UK pricing of the Volt, which comes to showrooms in right-hand-drive form in Spring 2012, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the US-manufacturer was celebrating its centenary.

�We wanted to back up a century of progress with our vision for the next century,� said Chevrolet UK Managing Director, Mark Terry. �Except it�s more than a vision, it�s a reality.�

Given current sales of the Chevrolet  Volt and Nissan Leaf, the president may hit his target . . . sometime in 2064.

In May, U.S. car sales for the much-hyped Chevrolet Volt totaled 481. Nissan Leaf did better, with 1,142 units sold. That�s a grand total of 1,623 electric cars sold for the month. At that torrid rate, it will take about 639 months, or a bit more than 53 years, for domestic sales of electric cars to reach 1 million.

Obama wants electric cars by 2015, but 2064 is a more realistic estimate.
