Land Rover proud to support The CLA Game Fair

As the world�s biggest celebration of country sport and pursuits, The CLA Game Fair provides Land Rover with a superb opportunity to connect with a key part of its UK market. This year�s event at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire (22nd to 24th July), promises to attract thousands of visitors to enjoy a vast range of country pursuits, competitions, demonstrations and crafts.

Land Rover will be once again proudly displaying its full model line-up at the fair, this time with the new attraction of the Range Rover Evoque Coupe and 5-door. The new Evoque�s debut at the event forms part of a busy programme of preview displays at equestrian and countryside events that are introducing the �compact� Range Rover to the British public, demonstrating that its cool contemporary styling is underpinned by traditional Land Rover quality and engineering.


The Land Rover Experience will also be at The Game Fair, demonstrating just some of the off-road strengths that have made Land Rover an iconic brand around the world, with passenger rides over a purpose-built course.

As a well-established supporter of The CLA Game Fair, Land Rover will again be sponsoring the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association�s Champion of Champions competition in which individual county champions contest an overall title.

Additionally, Land Rover is also sponsoring the fair�s new VIP Club. The Club promises visitors a first class experience, with use of a concierge service, refreshments throughout the day and exclusive seating.

Historics auction ex Gerry Marshall Land Rover

A Land Rover lovingly owned by the late racing legend Gerry Marshall, and still sporting a series of �optional extras� that signify his infectious enthusiasm for both cars and competition, will be auctioned at Historics Summer sale at Brooklands on Tuesday 19th July.

The 1972 Series III workhorse is affectionately festooned with stickers detailing Marshall�s various memberships, interests and passions, such as the Aston Martin Owners Club, The British Racing Drivers Club and Historic Sports Car Club amongst others.



As a short wheel base variant, the more sporting looks of this 88(�) County model aptly reflect Marshall�s racing credentials � with 625 race wins across various formula, spanning 40 years � whilst the addition of a secondary, competition rev counter leave an indelible imprint of its previous owner.

Currently owned by a close family friend, this reliable Land Rover has spent its most recent years garaged, seeing only limited use outside of the annual MOT test, and offers in the region of �4,000 - �6,000 are anticipated for one of the most famous examples of this vehicle in existence.

Axeon has worked closely with Jaguar Land Rover South Africa to produce an all-electric version of its iconic Defender model for use in game parks, minimising both environmental and noise pollution. The battery system produced by Axeon, Europe�s leading independent developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery systems, has been fitted to a Land Rover Defender 110 High Capacity Pick Up in place of the standard 2.4-litre diesel engine.

Unlike many electric vehicle battery packs that are positioned in the floor of the vehicle, the Axeon pack has been designed to fit into the vehicle�s engine bay in order to maintain ground clearance and wading height for this unique vehicle. The bespoke battery system also incorporates Axeon�s proprietary Battery Management System (BMS), which monitors the battery state, measuring and controlling key operational parameters, thus ensuring safety � particularly important for an electric vehicle that may encounter harsh conditions.



The replacement of the engine means that the production vehicle�s tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions of 295g/km have been reduced to zero and the electric Defender is also able to operate very quietly. In testing the range was shown to be capable of 3 times a typical game drive on a single charge.

The short development timescale of the battery was achieved by deploying Axeon�s accumulated experience in the design and manufacture of lithium-ion battery systems, and by working actively with engineers from both Land Rover and their South African partner Barker Performance Products.

The electric Defender has been received well by experienced Land Rover drivers, including those from the official Land Rover Experience, and it has performed exceptionally well on the rigorous and gruelling Gerotek test facility. In testing, the vehicle has also been able to get closer to animals within the game park due to its much quieter operation.

Whilst the electric Defender has been designed specifically for the game park sector, there are numerous other potential applications for such a vehicle, where reducing environmental and/or noise emissions are a priority.

The electric Defender will be launched as a concept vehicle at INDABA, one of Africa�s largest tourism events, held in Durban, South Africa, from 7th to 10th May 2011.
