Pontiac GTO �Monkeemobile� tour car heads to auction

In a real tribute to its Swinging Sixties cult following, Historics at Brooklands has consigned a 1966 Pontiac GTO Coupe �Monkeemobile� to its forthcoming summer sale on Tuesday July 19th.

The iconic mid-60�s muscle car has long since been a revered species of US enthusiasts and fanatics worldwide, and attracted the gaze of the Anglo-American pop rock group �The Monkees� in 1966, who welcomed the opportunity to create a promo car to reflect their growing on-screen status.


The result was the zany �Monkeemobile�, created and built by designer Dean Jeffries, which starred in the TV show and during subsequent stage tours. The eye-catching car featured a forward tilting split two-piece windshield, a touring car T-bucket-type convertible top, modified rear quarter panels and front fenders, exaggerated rear tail lamps, a set of four bucket seats with additional third row bench seat where the rear deck should have been, and a parachute!

45 years on, in June this year, three original members of the band � Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Davy Jones � were re-united with a 2011 Monkeemobile tour car, authentically created in New York from a 1966 Pontiac GTO by James Benken, a specialist US East Coast film car custom shop, and shipped to the UK ahead of their 2011 tour.


Since arriving in Liverpool, the car has been driven by all three members, made numerous press and TV cameos, as well as appearing at exhibitions and shows nationwide, and having been signed by the band, now takes centre stage at Historics auction on July 19th, where offers in the region of �75,000 - �85,000 are invited.

Historics auction ex Gerry Marshall Land Rover

A Land Rover lovingly owned by the late racing legend Gerry Marshall, and still sporting a series of �optional extras� that signify his infectious enthusiasm for both cars and competition, will be auctioned at Historics Summer sale at Brooklands on Tuesday 19th July.

The 1972 Series III workhorse is affectionately festooned with stickers detailing Marshall�s various memberships, interests and passions, such as the Aston Martin Owners Club, The British Racing Drivers Club and Historic Sports Car Club amongst others.



As a short wheel base variant, the more sporting looks of this 88(�) County model aptly reflect Marshall�s racing credentials � with 625 race wins across various formula, spanning 40 years � whilst the addition of a secondary, competition rev counter leave an indelible imprint of its previous owner.

Currently owned by a close family friend, this reliable Land Rover has spent its most recent years garaged, seeing only limited use outside of the annual MOT test, and offers in the region of �4,000 - �6,000 are anticipated for one of the most famous examples of this vehicle in existence.

More of 500,000 euros on the Ferrari Charity Auction

Over 200 passionate clients and collectors participated in today�s charity auction at the Italian embassy in Tokyo to collect money for the city of Ishinomaki, which was severely hit by the earthquake in Japan last March.

The auction was a great success, where some shirts, signed by the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, and the first FF on the Japanese market, were auctioned off.



Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, the Italian ambassador Vincenzo Petrone, the Japanese Minister of Industry Banri Kaieda and Ishinomaki�s mayor Hiroshi Kameyama participated in the event. The FF was won at the auction by an architect from Tokyo, Masaharu Seno, who offered more than the other bidders. With the over 500,000 Euros collected, Ferrari will build a school for the children of Ishinomaki. This initiative is a first and was also used to celebrate the first 35 years of Ferrari in Japan.

The only Hawker Demon Bi-plane K8203 in auction

One of Europe�s top specialist auctioneers of collectors� vehicles, H&H are also successful sellers of selected items by private treaty, and are delighted to now be offering the only airworthy Hawker Demon fighter remaining in the world today.

The result of a painstaking 35,000-hour, 18-year restoration, K8203 is understood to have been the 23rd of a third batch built by Boulton-Paul�s Wolverhamton plant to Specification 8/34. Delivered in October 1937, it was initially assigned to No.64 Squadron at RAF Church Fenton, and it is their livery that adorns the aircraft again now. Following spells at No.9 Maintenance Unit at RAF Cosford and No.9 Air Observer�s School at RAF Penrhos, it was apparently pensioned off as a ground training aid for No.1 Service Flying Training School, RAF Netheravon in September 1940. From this point the history is less well documented, but K8203 is thought to have ended up at No.413 (Aldershot) Squadron of the ATC some three years later, with the rear fuselage eventually finding its way into the RAF Museum�s storage facility at Cardington.



The fuselage was acquired by the vendor from Aero Vintage in July 1991, together with a fin, rudder, tailplane, elevators, centre-section, plus some parts of the wings and under-carriage. Other components were rescued from an Irish tip and the supercharged Rolls-Royce Kestrel VDR engine came from Australia, having been originally installed in a Royal Australian Air Force Demon. The over-riding intention was to make the finished aircraft as historically accurate as possible and a great deal of research and development went into the refurbishment of original parts and the manufacture of replacement ones as required. The task of bringing the Demon back to life was entrusted to SkySport Engineering of Sandy, Bedfordshire and a full account of this marathon achievement appeared in the December 2009 issue of Aeroplane Monthly.

Apparently the CAA inspector assigned to the project delayed his retirement specifically so he could personally sign off the test flight programme, and, having been grounded for almost 70 years, the restored Demon finally took to the skies once more in June 2009. Following completion of the test flights at RAF Henlow, a CAA permit was issued the following month, allowing K8203 to make its airshow debut at Old Warden on August 2. The aeroplane is now hangared at this airfield � the home of the world-renowned Shuttleworth Collection � and is regularly displayed there and elsewhere by Stuart Goldspink.
