1938 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Open Tourer - Collector Car For Sale (Click Here)

Description:
Year : 1938
Make : Rolls-Royce
Model : Phantom III
Coachbuilder : H.J. Mulliner/Hooper
Body Type : Open Tourer
Colour : Red over Black
Trim : Black Leather

History : In 1936 Rolls-Royce made their first move away from the highly successful six cylinder engine with the introduction of the Phantom III. For the first time in nearly three decades Rolls-Royce chose to power their new model with a V12 engine following several years of development. The new V12 engine was fitted with overhead valves and was capable of producing very impressive performance figures, especially when taking into account the sheer size and weight of the finished motor car. Speeds well in excess of 80mph were well within this powerful models grasp. The four speed manual gearbox was fitted with synchromesh on gears two, three and four and was very simple to operate. By 1938 two major improvements were implemented with solid adjustable tappets replacing the hydraulic units fitted in the earlier cars. Overdrive also became a standard and very welcome addition. The Phantom III was the last large Rolls-Royce produced prior to the outbreak of hostilities in 1939, with little more than 700 chassis rolling off the production line. Buyers had a vast range of coachbuilders to choose from, with a wide range of coachwork styles available. Chassis No 3DL102, which we are currently offering for sale, was delivered new to industrialist Theodore Cozzika in 1938, fitted with saloon coachwork with division by H.J. Mulliner of Chiswick London. Following Mr Cozzikas ownership the car returned to London and was sent to the royal coachbuilders Hooper in 1950 where it was adapted into an open tourer at the request of the then owner, His Majesty the King of Greece. 3DL102 is believed to be just a three owner car as the previous owner purchased the car in 1960 from the Greek royal family and kept it in his private collection of cars for several decades. This handsome Phantom III was subject to a complete engine re-build in recent years by a highly respected marque specialist, which took place over a three year period between 1999 and 2002 resulting in a show condition engine bay with outstanding V12 on road performance. The engine is exceptionally quiet and is almost impossible to hear when in a stationary position. Its performance whilst in operation is quite exceptional, with a great deal of power at the drivers disposal, complemented by smooth and effortless transmission through the gears. It comes fitted with a single side mounted spare wheel, twin flag masts and two occasional seats in the rear compartment. This superb motor car is in excellent cosmetic condition having been recently re-trimmed in the finest leather. The woodwork, bright work and coachwork are also in excellent order. It is complete with a large history file documenting the cars maintenance and restoration schedule. 3DL102 is an outstanding Phantom III in restored condition and ready for the next owners immediate use.

1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Sedanca Coupe - Collector Car For Sale (Click Here)

Description:
Year : 1935
Make : Rolls-Royce
Model : Phantom II
Coachbuilder : Windovers
Body Type : Sedanca Coupe
Colour : Garnet and Burgundy
Trim : Burgundy Leather

History : 1929 saw the arrival of the Rolls-Royce Phantom II which set new standards for others to follow. It was a vehicle specifically designed with the chauffer driven passenger in mind. At the time the only home produced rival to compare with the Phantom II was the Bentley 8 Litre, which was a faster vehicle but was thought to be far less chauffer friendly, with considerably heavier steering and a gearbox which was more difficult to operate. The vast majority of the 1,400 or so Phantom II chassis that were produced between 1929 and 1935 were fitted with four door saloon style coachwork, ideal for a chauffer and his passengers. However a select few were fitted with more stylish coachwork, and in our opinion few came better than Chassis No 197TA which is fitted with a special sedanca coupe design by Windovers of Colindale North London. The TA series cars were some of the very last built (only approximately 40 UK series chassis proceeded the TA series cars) and this particular car benefits from synchromesh gears on not only third and fourth gear, but also second gear as well; an improvement that was introduced in 1935. Chassis No 197TA was supplied from Windovers Central London showroom in Conduit Street, Mayfair (they were authorised Rolls-Royce and Bentley agents at this time) to a Captain Francis Francis. We understand that the car became the property of European nobility and was restored to concours condition for them some twenty five years ago (restoration details to follow shortly) It has clearly been sparingly used in the ensuing years as it still presents beautifully in every respect. It became part of one of the worlds most significant collections of desirable automobiles in recent years and was on display in the United States until returning to London quite recently. Chassis No 197TA is fitted with twin side mounted spare wheels, vanity mirrors to the rear compartment and a luggage rack that attached to the rear of the car below the tail mounted trunk. This unique Phantom II presents and drives beautifully and comes highly recommended by all at Frank Dale & Stepsons.

Condition : An older restoration that has been sparingly used and still presents beautifully.
Technical Data : Four speed manual gearbox, 6 cylinder in-line engine, 7.7 litres displacement, 7,668cc capacity. Servo-assisted brakes.

1926 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Open Tourer - Collector Car For Sale (Click Here)

Description:
Year : 1926
Make : Rolls-Royce
Model : Phantom I
Coachbuilder : Windovers
Body Type : Open Tourer
Colour : Wedgewood Blue over Black
Trim : Black Leather

History : By 1925 the exceptionally successful eighteen year production run of the Silver Ghost had firmly put Rolls-Royce at the forefront of motor car production. The term The Best Car in the World had been deservingly earnt thanks to the soundness of its design and the pain staking lengths the Rolls-Royce engineers and workmen went to during construction. It is fair to say that the Ghosts efficiency, reliability and superb performance were unmatched at the time. Its reputation laid the foundations for the continued success of the company and following seven years of development on the 2nd of May 1925 a new chapter began with the introduction of the New Phantom, which later became known as the Phantom I. One major improvement over the Silver Ghost was the introduction of the pushrod operated overhead valve engine. Three groups of two cylinders with detachable heads powered the 7.7 litre engine, producing rapid acceleration and the ability to maintain high speeds for periods of time undreamt of before. The New Phantom was able to produce 33% greater horse power at just over 2,000 rpm than its predecessor, thanks to a number of mechanical improvements. The New Phantom was a great success and was considered to be a very worthy successor to the Silver Ghost. Production lasted until early 1930 with a total of 2,269 chassis produced on English soil whilst a little more than 1,200 further chassis were produced at the Rolls-Royce factory in Springfield, Massachusetts in the United States. The standard chassis rolled off the production line with a price tag of 1,850 and then it was up to the new owner to instruct the coachbuilder of his/her choice to construct coachwork to their taste. Windovers factory in Colindale, North London was particularly prolific in production terms during the 1920s following their relocation from Huntingdon producing a wide range of bodies for the New Phantom chassis. Windovers were responsible for bodying just over twenty open tourer bodies for the Phantom I chassis identical to Chassis No 132LC which we are proud to be offering for sale at this time. Windovers work was admired by a number of the Indian Princes and it should be noted that identical open tourer bodies were crafted for the likes of the Maharajah of Nanpara and the Maharajah of Kashmir. His Highness the Kumar of Viziangaram also had such a body constructed by Windovers but chose solid gold and silver fittings as opposed to the standard nickel finish. Well.....if you can afford it, why not. Chassis No 132LC was originally delivered on the 27th of May 1926 to Mr Taylor of Tadworth in Surrey finished as is it is today, in Wedgewood blue over black with a black hood. 132LC appears to have spent lengthy periods of time in both England and the United States of America. At some point prior to the 1960s the coachwork was re-painted yellow and black. However it was restored to its original configuration of blue over black during a high quality restoration some decades ago whilst in England. Records show that 132LC returned to the United States in the late 1960s before returning to British shores in around 1990. It has since spent one further period of time on American soil before returning to London quite recently. The car comes complete with its rear screens and full all weather gear including side screens, a detachable tail mounted trunk and copies of the original factory build sheets and chassis cards. The restoration has stood the test of time well and the car still presents beautifully. Having been mechanically reviewed and tuned by our engineers we can report that this superb motor cars on road performance is exceptional and is ready to be used for touring if so desired. In our opinion this magnificent pre-war Rolls-Royce will surely serve its next proud owner with distinction.

Condition : An older restoration that has stood the test of time very well. In very good order throughout.

Technical Data : Four speed manual gearbox, 6 cylinder in-line engine, 7.7 litres displacement, 7,668cc capacity. Servo-assisted brakes.

Used Rolls Royce - Luxurious Executive Cars

If you like cars and haven't heard of Rolls-Royce, then you may as well have been living under a bush for the majority of the last century! Not only are Rolls-Royce a properly old and well established company, but they are well-known for producing some of the most luxurious and expensive executive cars that you can find around the world. Every little thing about the cars is meticulous and intentional, a feat of engineering that has bought them a great deal of respect and which has kept them going through all the trials and tribulations the last 100 years or so has thrown at them. Rolls-Royce cars are so popular that there is even a mass market out there for used Rolls-Royces, with lots of dealerships scattered all around the country. Considering their huge starting price it is also worth mentioning that they barely seem to depreciate, instead staying as a largely unachievable status symbol for as long as they are looked after carefully and are professionally maintained.

Used Rolls Royce - Luxurious Executive CarsWith such a long and distinguished heritage, it only seems right that this most respected and established British brand has an equally respected and prestigious abode. Enter Goodwood, the Rolls-Royce headquarters situated appropriately in the heart of the British countryside. Considering the regal fronting and amazing quality of this esteemed mansion, it is often hard to understand the modern and technical nature of the engineering work and design that goes on within.

Used Rolls Royce - Luxurious Executive CarsIf the historic estate is a regal and antiquated setting, then don't let that make you assume that the building itself will be fuddy-duddy and old-fashioned. After all, Rolls-Royce entered the 21st century a way ahead of the crowd, and they built a headquarters to represent this. This explains the fact that the Goodwood location, a venue for all sorts of racing events and festivals, has a mile long glass section that allows eager visitors to get a glimpse of the famous Rolls assembly lines, which is of course where the magic happens - and where those beautiful car designs are magically made into a luxurious reality!

Used Rolls Royce - Luxurious Executive Cars
Used Rolls Royce - Luxurious Executive Cars The Goodwood location really is the perfect representation of the Rolls-Royce brand. If you could sum the style and the attitude to car creation up in an architectural representation, then it is fair to say that this is exactly what a Used Rolls-Royce will look like in most people's heads. It is mainly to do with the fact that if you look at an actual Rolls car, you don't just see for wheels and a chassis. Instead, you see a beautiful creation, with a strong bold design and a certain style that suggests a true to god pedigree. Then you drive it, and you realise the incredibly workmanship and modern design is in the engine too, as it drive like nothing else on earth. This is why the Goodwood location is so apt - because you get that same vintage feel with lots of heritage, but effortlessly combined with a set of modern looking, liking and materials.

Project Kahn Drophead Coupe

The folks over at Project Kahn have just sent out some photos of their Project Kahn Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe. Shown in Black Diamond, this version of the two-door was originally introduced back in July.

These new photos show the elegance of the DHC. The model already sold by Rolls Royce is meant to completely encompass the passenger in luxury, privacy, and quiet, while the driver is able to focus on the road with no distraction.

Project Kahn puts a highlight on the car with their Silver Mist wheel. The large, custom alloy measures 9.5" by 22" making it wider than the stock wheels. This is meant to give "a more sporty and aggressive feel." They also have another, darker grey tone wheel available in the same size. The original Rolls Royce center cap fits in the new wheels.

If you buy the car through the tuner company, it will come new with Elm Cluster Veneer Wood paneling and dash, Rolls Royce embossed front headrests, Piano Black steering wheel spokes, iPod connector, and a polished front radiator grille. Lambs wool rugs are also included, but only the lord almighty knows how to get them clean. Make sure you wipe off your patent leather loafers before stepping in.

You can buy the Project Kahn Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe for 316.000, including taxes.

Pininfarina Rolls-Royce Hyperion

Pininfarina were challenged and commissioned by car collector Roland Hall to create a vehicle that would pay homage to the sumptuous cars of the 1930s, a challenge that is well within the grasp of the Italians specialists. Pininfarina have used their expertise to create special models in the past, some may remember the Ferrari P4/5 based on the Enzo or perhaps even the Scaglietti K springs to mind.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe owned by Hall provides the base for the Hyperion, the rear seats of the model are removed leaving enough area to nudge the driving position back an extra 400mm.To accurately depict the styling of the pre-war cars, Pininfarina had to extend the roof which simultaneously shorten the rear end whilst keeping a beautiful array of soft flowing design lines.

The classic Rolls-Royce grille remains although it is now slightly inclined offering better aerodynamic performance and a set of recessed Bixenon headlights with LED technology lie both sides of it. Most of the bodywork is made of carbon fibre, although the doors which have been designed by craftsmen that usually focus on luxury boats are made of solid wood.

Much of the Drophead Coupe's interior styling remains, however a vintage 1945 watch specially designed for the Hyperion by Girard-Perregaux can be found attached to the dashboard, it can also be detached for Mr. Hall's personal use.

Mechanics beneath the Hyperion's elegant posterior have been left untouched

Rolls-Royce Phantom by EDAG

The multi millionaires and billionaires of the world have a rough life, so tuning company EDAG has decided to make things a little easier for them. Debuting at the Geneva Auto Show the EDAG Rolls-Royce Phantom has an articulating roof design that eliminates the need for rear passengers to duck down as they enter the car.

Inspiration for the roof opening comes from what EDAG considers an oversight by Rolls-Royce. In factory models the C-pillar was purposely created extra large so rear passengers would have the sense of additional privacy and security. This however results in a rather difficult entry and exit from the vehicle, even for people of average height.

To correct this problem EDAG had to use carbon fiber reinforcements in the roof and modify the interior ceiling with original components from Rolls-Royce to create a seamless appearance. To open the roof panel the driver or passenger simply presses a button, and then the hydraulically powered roof segment will rise in a smooth silent motion.

Press Release

EDAG to Show Articulated Roof for Rolls Royce Phantom at Geneva

The vision of comfort
Besides developments aimed at improving their ecological compatibility, the question of comfort will be a decisive factor in the marketing success of future vehicle types. Having said this, in the age of networked communication and infotainment systems, the term "comfort" is not limited purely to
physical comfort in the car. A car of tomorrow will have to provide the customer with the ability to access any data and information which he or she needs for either private or professional use. Merging the realms of vehicle, office, home and worldwide service and infotainment options defines the future meaning of the word comfort in the automotive branch.
As a global partner to the automotive industry, EDAG has defined "the vision of comfort" as its leading theme, and this will take centre stage at the company's presentation at the 2008 Geneva Show. With its presentation of the articulated roof for the Rolls Royce Phantom, EDAG is showcasing its first step towards its target of developing complex, innovative luxury solutions.

"Vision of Comfort" Focus: Vehicle Body
Innovative vehicle body concepts in the exterior and interior will also contribute to an increase in com-fort within the car in the future. Ergonomically optimised package concepts, such as access aids, serve to improve convenience considerably. Controls, seating comfort, air conditioning and visibility all have to undergo constant refinement, as requirements are always changing. This will mean that vehicle derivatives, created by designers and engineers to have optimised functions and guarantee user convenience, will become an absolute must.
Using the example of one means of optimising access to a Rolls Royce Phantom, EDAG will be documenting its expertise in the development and close-to-production implementation of innovative luxury concepts within the field of vehicle bodies.

Optimised entry to a Rolls Royce Phantom
Not even a Rolls Royce Phantom will be able to satisfy its owners every wish. One example is the seat behind the C pillar in the rear of the car, which traditionally creates a feeling of security and privacy.
With the production model, however, this does have a price: namely the fact that it is impossible, even for someone of average height, to enter and leave the car in an upright position. The solution that EDAG developed is an articulated roof over the rear seat area, so that passengers can get into and out of the car in comfort.
It might sound trivial, but the job called for a great deal of technical finesse. First of all, EDAGs Product Development and Production departments worked out various concepts for raising the roof and the lateral roof frame together. It goes without saying that the exclusive interior design was to be borne in mind at all times, and that neither rigidity, comfort nor sealing capacity were to be compromised under any circumstances whatsoever.
There was no way to avoid severing the lateral roof frame of the aluminium spaceframe. A reinforcement cut from solid metal, which at one and the same time incorporates the kinematics, water channel, locking mechanisms, seals and finger protection, does, however, provide the essential rigidity of the body.
The aluminium structure for the roof was likewise cut from the solid. To save weight, the roofs outer skin panel is made of synthetic carbon-fibre material. The roofs interior trims were re-designed, and covered with original quality Rolls Royce materials. By simply pressing a button, the driver or passenger can activate the specially developed electronic controls, and raise the hydraulically powered roof segment with practically no sound whatsoever. Modification of the roof structure has had no effect on either the car's handling or its interior acoustics.

Mutec Stretched Rolls-Royce Phantom

Feeling frustrated that your Rolls-Royce Phantom doesnt have enough room for you and your entourage, forcing you to take a less glamorous vehicle with seating for six? If so German coachbuilder Mutec has created the solution, by introducing a version of the Phantom that has been stretched 43 inches.

As an official Rolls-Royce coachbuilder, Mutec features world class craftsmanship with modifications that look like they came straight from the factory. The rear bench has been replaced by two sets of seats from the Phantoms theater seating package, to create individual seating for four. Completing the interior are extended privacy curtains, modified center consoles, and a retractable partition that separates rear passengers from the driver.

Rolls-Royce Celebrates Record 2007 Result

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars saw sales in 2007 increase by 25 per cent, compared to 2006, with retails of 1010 cars. This is the first time that annual sales have reached four figures and the fourth successive sales increase since the company was launched in 2003.

There was strong demand for all Phantom models, with the four door versions (Phantom and Phantom Extended Wheelbase) remaining the best sellers and accounting for 75 per cent of the total. However, it was the exceptional demand for the new Phantom Drophead Coup, launched in the summer, which drove the volume increase. Production capacity at Goodwood was maximized by working extended shifts.

Everybody at Rolls-Royce is delighted with this tremendous result which marks our fifth anniversary in the best possible way, said Ian Robertson, Chairman and Chief Executive. It confirms Rolls-Royce as the most desirable brand in the super luxury market and is a credit to the passion and dedication of our teams at Goodwood and around the world. The customer reaction to the Drophead Coup has been astonishing, exceeding all our expectations.

North America remained the biggest single market for Rolls-Royce in 2007, accounting for 40 per cent of sales and showing growth of 22 per cent. Exceptional performances were seen in the United Arab Emirates and in China which grew by around 70 and 50 per cent respectively.

The Rolls-Royce dealer network expanded to 80 in 2007, with new showrooms including St Petersburg, Kiev and Dresden. The top selling dealers worldwide in 2007 were, respectively, Beverly Hills, London, Abu Dhabi, Tokyo and Dubai. Abu Dhabi saw the highest annual increase, with sales more than doubling.

Looking ahead in 2008, Rolls-Royce has announced its intention to launch a two-door coup model, based on the Phantom, in the summer. Further into the future a new Rolls-Royce model series, to sit alongside the Phantom models, will be launched in 2010, currently named RR4.
