Hyundai i20

The Hyundai i20 is a supermini/subcompact car, made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008 and went on the sale in December 2008 in India to fit between the i10 and i30. It is a Front wheel drive car. Three and five door versions are available (Both have different sleek window shapes). The i20 replaces the Getz in most markets but in the UK and India, the Getz will still be available for the time being. The i20 is assembled in Turkey (Izmit plant) for the European market and in Sriperumbudur (near Chennai), India for sale in Asia and Oceania.

The i20 is not sold in Korea, as the similar, Korea-built Click (Which is also known as the Hyundai Getz in the UK) sold there. It is also not sold in the North American market (U.S. and Canada), where the slightly larger Accent is the entry model.

Hyundai Launches Era & Spoprtz: New Compact Car Award Winning i20 Variants in India

Following the phenomenal success of the i20, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the largest exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India, today launched its latest model the all new i20, a premium compact car for discerning Indian customers.

In addition to the existing models, the all new Hyundai i20 will be available in two new variants the Era and the Sportz. These variants of the award-winning compact car come with several new technology rich features which enhance its styling and also improve the fuel consumption. The Era has been introduced with both the petrol and diesel engine as the price leading variant while the Sportz will bridge the price and feature gap between the Magna and Asta.
Commenting on the launch, H W Park, Managing Director & CEO, HMIL, said, "We are pleased to announce the launch of the Hyundai i20 with new features and two new additional variants. While the variants are targeted at our customers who have different needs, the new features will help improve the i20 and make it even more desirable for our customers. We are confident that with the new features and additional variants the Hyundai i20 will become even more attractive and set new benchmark for this class of cars with improved styling, unique features and conformity with global safety standards."

The all new Hyundai i20 comes loaded with many smart features. It is the first in its segment to have six-speed manual transmission gears in the diesel variant. The additional sixth gear will facilitate smooth and fuel efficient driving, making highway driving seem like a cruise. The sixth gear will also enable low rpm operation of the engine, making the i20 diesel more fuel-efficient and leading to a lower NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) and lesser wear and tear of the engine.

The all new Hyundai i20 is the first-in-the-segment to have technology innovations like manual transmission shift indicators (diesel variant) an innovative gear prompt for the driver to change gears, leading to maximum fuel economy. The all new i20 design philosophy follows the brand's new identity. From the front grille to the enhanced interiors the styling is modern and reflective of current global trends. On the exterior it features all new Chrome Radiator Grille and outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators while on the inside it features blue LED interior illumination, silver centre fascia and chrome finish on inside door locks. The other new features that have been added to make the car more appealing are Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) system and in-built USB port (in Magna) and several other attractive features like a burglar alarm, steering wheel with audio remote and passenger vanity mirror (in Sportz and Asta).

Hyundai is synonymous with world-class safety and low emission cars and the all new i20 debuts with the latest BS IV compliance. The vehicle also offers increased fuel economy across the entire range, which will translate into greater savings on fuel costs. As per the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the all new i20 petrol version (1.2 Kappa) is capable of delivering a mileage of 18.15 km/litre and the diesel variant (1.4 CRDi) can deliver a mileage of 21.93 km/litre which makes it highly fuel-efficient and economical to drive. Both the petrol and the diesel variant will comply with the recently introduced BS IV emission norms.

Designed for the "Uber Cool" auto enthusiasts, the new variants of the all new i20 will go up for sale immediately and the prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Era variant starts at Rs. 451,816 /- while as the Sportz, positioned between the Magna and the Asta will be priced at Rs. 531,817 /-.

The revolutionary Automatic Transmission i20 uses a 4-speed gearbox with an overdrive lock switch.

The i20 AT launch was necessitated keeping in mind the ever-increasing city traffic with its start-stop-go driving cycles, especially during peak hours, resulting in repeated usage of clutch and gear-shifting which in-turn leads to driver fatigue. With the i20 now available with automatic transmission, the diesel and the petrol engine variant, consumers can now look forward to the entire range for the i20 model. With the launch of the i20 Automatic, HMIL becomes the first manufacturer to offer an automatic option across all the segments starting from the compact to the premium.

The i20, boasting of a high array of safety features is the first car in its segment to offer 6 airbags, rear disc brakes with ABS and EBD which are standard equipment on the diesel and the automatic variant. To enhance the driving experience a panoramic sunroof is also offered as an option across all variants.

Commenting on the launch of the i20 diesel, H S Lheem, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India Limited said, The launch of i20 diesel is a proud moment for us, especially after the immense success of i20, both in India and overseas market. The i20 will also be available now with an automatic transmission a first in the premium compact car segment. The large and powerful 1.4 litre diesel engine represents the ultimate in fuel efficiency, safety, driving pleasure and economy. In fact, the immaculate performance and safety feature of the i20 has made it the first India produced car to meet the stringent European safety norms and in fact enjoys a 5 Star Euro NCAP rating making it the safest car available in this segment.

Hyundai created a new era in the Indian compact segment by introducing the i20 at the Paris Motor Show in October 2008 with distinctive styling, refreshing features and unmatched safety features. All these have made Hyundai one of the fastest growing and preferred automobile companies in India. It enjoys a high customer confidence and satisfaction levels both in India and abroad. The i20 since its launch in India on December 29, 2008 has sold over 72,000 units with domestic sales accounting for over 12,000 units while the export market covering different continents from Europe, Africa and Asia lapped up over 60,000 units in a short span of six months.

The i20 diesel and the petrol will be available in three different variants starting with Magna, Asta and the Asta Option which comes with a panoramic sunroof. The i20 Automatic will be sold in two variants namely the Asta and the Asta Option. The new CRDi model is expected to be priced nearly Rs. 70,000 /- to Rs. 100,000 /- over and above the existing price of its petrol variant.
