El nuevo sistema de proteccin de 3M reduce los daos a la pintura
A highly innovative new system is set to improve bodyshop productivity by significantly reducing periodic and daily paint booth maintenance.
Introduced by diversified technology company 3M, the 3M Dirt Trap Protection System, which takes around two hours per oven to install, has been designed to help bodyshops protect their paint booth investment by capturing dust, dirt and overspray. It also improves the bodyshop environment by providing a lighter setting for painting.
The range comprises 3M Dirt Trap Protection Material, a specially engineered, adhesive-backed white fabric to protect paint booth walls and floors, and 3M Dirt Trap Protection Film, an adhesive-backed clear sheet which protects lights and windows from overspray build-up.
Unlike clear masking films, the products require no taping or magnets and will last typically eight to 16 weeks before needing replacement, depending on the style of booth and type and frequency of paint job. It can be removed in just five minutes.
3M Dirt Trap Protection Material is particularly well-suited to use with waterborne paint systems, where the greater airflow required to accelerate drying time can create more airborne dust and dirt, which the product traps using a unique non-woven construction and keeps away from the paint job.
Darren Lansley of 3Ms Automotive Aftermarket Division explained: The paint booth is invariably one of the largest investments within any bodyshop and keeping it in optimal working condition is a never-ending task. Cleaning, scraping and re-painting take away from valuable production time, while repeated washing introduces moisture which promotes premature rust and corrosion.
Furthermore, when airborne contaminants settle on freshly painted surfaces, rectification is required to prepare the finish to meet customer expectations time which could be better spent on another job.
The 3M Dirt Trap Protection System minimises downtime in the paint booth and helps to keep it in the best possible order. Once the booth is fully prepared for the Dirt Trap system this should be the last time you need to scrape, clean or paint the oven - the product can simply be peeled off and a new roll applied.
The range is versatile enough to be used in paint mixing rooms and on floors adjacent to the booth to further reduce contamination. Internal 3M testing in the USA found that using the range could remove nibs found in paintwork by up to 50 per cent.
Dispensers are available for both products while bodyshops can also order an Intro Kit containing one roll of each product, a dispenser for each, two installation tools and installation instructions.
