2012 Toyota Prius Selectable EV Mode Feature

Toyota has been sh?wing ?ff its plug-in hybrid Prius since it debuted in concept form at the 2009 Los Angeles Aut? Sh?w.
The Japanese aut?maker is getting ready t? deliver the 2012 production versi?n, and we just found ?ut that it will have some significant changes ?ver the prototype versi?ns we have seen s? far. The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle b?asts tw? unique features; a selectable EV driving mode, and the ability t? apply recaptured energy to the electric-?nly driving range.

The selectable EV driving m?de will be quite useful for trips requiring the use ?f a highway or that c?ver longer distances than simple in-t?wn errand running. This will all?w Prius PHEV drivers t? conserve energy f?r electric-only jaunts. A butt?n will allow you t? turn the EV mode ?n or ?ff.
Any run-?f-the-mill Prius hybrid uses regeneration t? replenish the battery. In the prot?ptye PHEVs, no more energy can be recaptured and st?red f?r later use than the regular non-plug-in m?del. That means there was no way t? extend EV-only range with?ut plugging back in. On the producti?n version ?f the Prius PHEV, the car will be able t? take advantage ?f that regenerated energy, and extend the time the car can spend in EV m?de.
