Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Body Styling The Performance

The first thing to go when Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG gets its hands on a Mercedes is the front bumper, so while the more pedestrian four- and six-cylinder SLK models get a new, more F1-esque front end treatment, the V8 version throws that out the window. In its place is a wider mouth with a blacked-out lower lip, flanked by side vents and capped by smoked headlamps. The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 new taillights carry over onto the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG model, but again the clear section is smoked, underneath which is found a different rear bumper than the standard versions integrating quad round tailpipes in place of the standard square twins. Otherwise, the same sweet AMG tuned 5.5-liter V8 carries over unchanged, which we think is a good thing.

The striking bonnet with its characteristic longitudinal fins conceals the 5.5-liter Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG eight-cylinder engine, which has an output of 360 bhp and develops 376 lb-ft of torque - figures which remain unrivalled in this segment. Enormous torque, immediate responsiveness and the typical AMG V8 sound characterize the driving experience, together with outstanding performance: the two-seater accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, reaches the 124 mph mark in 17.5 seconds and has a top speed (electronically limited) of 155 mph. Power is transferred by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission with steering wheel gearshift paddles, which now ensures even greater agility: gearchanges in the "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual) driving modes are around ten percent faster than before.

The  Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 was first introduced back in 2005 and was updated again which carries through to the current model year. The car's 5.5-liter V8 is unchanged with an output of 355 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 376 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. The rear-wheel-drive roadster sprints to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds or less. Power is transferred by the AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic transmission with steering wheel gearshift paddles. Updated for the current generation, gearchanges in the "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual) driving modes are around ten percent faster than before.

Redesigned 18 inch Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG wheels feature a multi-spoke design and titanium grey finish. New, high-sheen 18-inch Mercedes-Benz AMG light-alloy wheels in a twin-spoke design are also available. The front brakes have perforated discs measuring 345 x 30 mm. The rear discs measure 300 x 22 mm. In the functional and sporty interior of the  Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG, the new Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel with its three-spoke design gives a visual hint of the direct steering feature. The grip area is specially shaped and lined with perforated leather, while the vertical spoke is embellished by a silver-colored insert. Two aluminum AMG shift paddles allow manual gear selection.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG body styling complements the performance. This includes an AMG front and rear apron, as well as side skirts in a titanium grey finish and high-sheen 18-inch 4-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels, the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes, plus an AMG rear spoiler.
