The Mazda CX-9 is manufactured at Mazda's Ujina plant in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The Mazda CX-9 is also sold in Australia and Indonesia, where it sells in similar numbers to the smaller CX-7. It has recently been introduced into New Zealand. Despite being manufactured in Japan, a right hand drive country, Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia are the only right hand drive countries in the world that sell the CX-9. The Mazda CX-9 was unveiled on April 13, 2006 at the New York International Auto Show and went on sale in February 2007. The CX-9 is built on the Ford CD3 Platform which is shared with the Ford Edge, and it uses the same 3.7L V6 engine used in the Ford linup. The Mazda CX-9 won this award perhaps because of its skillful blending of the sporty driving signature of Mazda with the practicality brought by a seven-passenger sport utility vehicle. This Mazda model was able to successfully break out from the traditional SUVs because of its having dynamic styling, spacious interior, powerful and dynamic driving performance, and thus won high scores. Sales of the Mazda CX-9 started in January 2007 in North America  and during the end of 2007, sales in Australia and Saudi Arabia were launched. The Mazda CX-9, thanks to its array of impressive safety features, earned the highest possible scores in frontal and side impact crashes from the test made by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S government. The 2011 Mazda CX-9 is available in three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. Customers will find all three trims come with a standard six speed automatic and are available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive variants. All three variants of the CX-9 feature the same 273 horsepower 3.7-liter V6 which is mated to a 6-speed transmission. FWD is standard and yields 16 city, 22 highway estimated MPG. The optional AWD is available across the trim levels and returns 15 city, and 21 highway MPG.

The 2011 Mazda CX-9 certainly presents more positives than negatives. But if an involved driving experience isn't a priority for your next family hauler, there are others to consider. The Ford Flex is one of our favorites thanks to its high-quality interior, roomy third-row seat and innovative electronic features. The Chevrolet Traverse (plus its Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia relatives) is also worth considering due to its more compliant suspension and roomier cargo area.

The 2011 Mazda CX-9 provides adult-size seating in all three rows, solid build quality and a respectable 101 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity. Easy access to the rearmost seats is an added bonus, as are a carlike driving position and attractive interior styling. The CX-9's only significant downsides include long rear doors that complicate entry and egress in tight parking spots and a ride quality that's just a little too stiff on Grand Touring models with the 20-inch wheels.

Mazda enthusiasts will be happy to know that Mazda CX-9 has a 3.7-liter DOHC 24-valve engine capable of producing 273 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. it is equipped with rain-sensing wipers that quickly activated on the first drops of rain when the CX-9 was tested. For safety, Mazda has incorporated heated outside mirrors with side marker lights.  Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring trim turned out to be real comfortable and provides drivers with a sense of importance. Plus, as it has a unique styling, it makes it really fun to drive around the neighborhood for everyone to see. A lot of safety features are also integrated and these include the traction control system, front air bags, front-side impact air bags. There are even a 36-month/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 60-month/60,000-,mile warranty on the powertrain to help in maintaining the power and beauty of this Mazda sports utility vehicle.
